Shovel- or chisel-shaped front teeth used for biting off food. The 8 deciduous incisors are replaced around the age of 6 by permanent incisors.
Initial caries
First stage of caries in which the damage is only present beneath the surface of the enamel. Outward signs: whitish flecks (chalk flecks) on the enamel. Can often be cured by improved oral hygiene and regular fluoride application (elmex gel).
Interdental caries
Caries in the interdental space. Very common because the interdental spaces are difficult to clean properly. elmex amine fluorides also form a protective layer here to guard against acid attack.
Interdental cleaning
Targeted removal of bacterial plaque between the teeth; depending on the width of the interdental space, with dental floss, dental sticks or interdental brushes.
Interdental space
Area between the teeth.
Interdental space brushes
Device for the targeted removal of bacterial plaque between the teeth, particularly in wider interdental spaces. A basic distinction is made between cylindrical and tapered interdental brushes. The most suitable device for a particular interdental space is determined in the dental practice.
