Professor Crispian Scully spoke about dental and clinical aspects of halitosis. He pointed out the main causes and possible risk factors for oral malodour and also gave an overview about different methods of measurement.
Professor John Greenman highlighted the correlation between biofilms and oral malodour. It seems likely that a continuous level of malodour is coupled to a continuous generation rate from the biofilm.
The lecture of Dr. Kislig dealt with assessment and measurement of halitosis in the dental practice. As both the instrumental and the organoleptic measures require a certain amount of training and experience, she recommends the implementation of a very simple organoleptic scale for the dental practice.
